Saturday was youth day here in NJ and my son who has tried so hard all bow season finally connected. I posted about how to keep him positive during the season, about 20 ga. buckshot and moreand you guys always had great responses. He missed with the bow but it all came together for him on Saturday.
We hunted the morning and after meeting my buddie and his son, we headed for another property to " walk around" until 1:00 or so and then go on the afternoon hunt. We walked in from two sides fo the property and tried to push the deer to each other. This didn' t work so we sat for an hour and agreed to meet at the road at 1:00. When my buddie and his son were coming out we talked on the radio and when he told me where he was I told my son to get ready, there is always deer in the thicket in front of where my buddy. Sure enough, one breaks from the thicket and runs right to us. It stops at 40 yards and I as wishing he had a slug in the gun instead of 20 ga buckshot. Well, the deer started to move again and he came our way. At 18 steps, my son layed it out with one load of 2 buck. It just twitched. He was jumping around and yelling and I' m pretty sure I was too. It was only a button buck but to me, it was the biggest damn deer I' ve ever seen anyone shoot. What a great day and what a great experience. My son is still pumped and I can' t wait to get him out again.
