I tend to ramble when I make posts. I am not pissed, just curious if others know of people who shoot a lot of deer and eat it.
One thing about my sisters family is if the dinner isn' t all eaten it goes to the family dog. That dog is eating good on deer day.

. The years my family didn' t like venison (long story, but it' s changed), I more or less quit hunting. We always roughly plan how many deer we need for our party and shoot accordingly. Occassionally we end up with some extra, maybe something like 1/2 to 1 dressed out deer, but always know families in the area who take it. But almost always limit to what we want for our own. -zeke

i ussually end up giving my older brother about half of all the deer and antelope i get, he hasnt got to go deer hunting with us yet or antelope but hopefully will next year. and i am not able to eat 2 deer and 2 antelope all by myslef, beings that my mom doesnt like the taste of it.Other than that a friend of mine has already gotten 4 deer and still has i think close to 4 tags left and he gives some away and i told him that i would take one and he said sure, but that id have to process it myself which will be no problem. hopefully i can talk my brother into helping me and then let him take that one if i fill my other two tags.

I share, but the first one goes in my freezer. Along with the tender loins and the Backstraps. I have taken two this year and it just got back from being processed. Time to start passing it out.

We hunt as a group so if you have a tag you are entitled to an equal share of the meat. It does not matter if we have 6 deer or 2 deer, all shares are equal.
Now, as for someone outside of the group getting some meat, that is completely up to the members of the group after the shares have been divided.
This years share was almost 60lbs of boneless roast, steak, butterfly chops, stew and burger each. I have already given away 10-15lbs to a couple of guys at work.
This may be just me but I would never give away a whole deer. Mainly because if I am in a position to give away a complete deer I have shot more then I need which I feel is wrong.

I honestly can say that i wish i was in a position to be able to share the venison i have taken, but it only being 100lbs dressed, after its processed thats gonna drop it a vast amount. Ill share with my inlaws but it wont be a large amount, NOT TO be STINGY but if i give it away i wont have any for my freezer. being that meat is so exspensive ill be keeping most for my family. I hope i dont sound stingy to anyone.

It' s just common courtisy and good sportsmanship to share the bounty.
I would not hunt with those guys, even if they are so called family. [>:]
Just keep on keeping on, and they will get whats coming to them some day.[>:]

My family of four can easily eat three or four deer. The most we ever had was 2 and that was gone by january. This year we have about 120lbs of meat in the freezer and we are keeping all of it. My family eats about 6-8lbs of it a week. If i get a doe or maybe two with my ML or shotgun then I will start giving it away or donating it to gods kitchen just because of lack of freezer space. We could easily use someone elses freezer and still consume all the meat by next year but we have lots of relatives begging for meat!

BIGSCRAPE,what if you shoot lets say 3 deer a year and you only need 2 and you donate one of them to a food pantry or a less privalegded family you know, then do you still feel like you shot more than you need and still feel wrong?

WELL I HAVE 2 FRIENDS....ONE FRIEND WE SHARE EACH YEAR NO MATTER WHAT. MY FREEZER IS FILLED, HE GETS WHATEVER HE WANTS NO QUESTIONS ASKED. MY OTHER FRIEND, WELL IF HE GETS A DEER, AND I DON' T HE DOESN' T OFFER AT ALL, AND IF I OR ANYONE ASK FOR MEAT, HE GIVES A STEAK THATS IT. FEW YEARS AGO HE GOT A DOE IN THE LATE SEASON, I WAS DEERLESS. I GUTTED, AND DRAGGED THE DEER OUT FOR HIM, I SAID I WANT MEAT, HE SAID THEN PAY FOR THE PROCESSING. I JUST LOVE SEEING DEER, AND IF I GET LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET A DEER I LOVE ALSO GIVING THE MEAT OUT TO OTHERS WHO ENJOY IT, AND IF I GET 2 DEER IN A SEASON I GIVE THE WHOLE THING TO MY FRIEND IF HE WANTS IT.
