Whats your favorite for whitetails? I've killed them with a 243, 30-30, 35Rem., 308 and 30-06.
I like the 243 simply because it works as well as the others I've used and in some cases with less recoil......and in other case is more versatile.
So what do y'all like?

For over 40 years it was the .308 win. for the last several years it is the 45-70.

In what rifle is that 45-70? I looked at Remlin I guess about 2 months ago, and to be honest I was expecting to see a POS but the rifle was put together nicely and the wood was better than average.

Jerry if you were to ask what cartridge did I kill the most deer with, I would have to say it was a toss up between the .243 and the .270. Both great time proven whitetail rounds. But, although I haven't shot too many deer with it, my current favorite deer cartridge is the 7mm-08. I have one in a Browning A-bolt Micro Hunter that is a joy to carry, shoots 'lights out' and has plenty of KE to drop the biggest whitetail.

Bronko, glad to hear that about the 270 because I just bought a vanguard in 270. I wanted a 7mm08 but this deal was to good to pass up.

Jerry my load for my .270 was 54 gr of IMR4350 under a Nosler 130gr Ballistic Tip bullet. This combination dropped whitetails, mulies and antelope from literally spitting distance to out beyond 400 yards. The rifle was a Rem. 700 BDL (about 1970s vintage) and would put 5 shots into a tiny little cloverleaf @ 100 yards.

Mine is a 7mm remington mag. With the 7mm/08 close behind. My less favorit is a 243 win. Have killed deer with 243, 257 roberts,270 win, 7mm/08,7mm mag, and 300 wby. Also with a 50 cal muzzleloader.

Since 1980 my only center fire rifle has been a Ruger M-77 in .243...

With it I have killed over 200 whitetails, mostly with 100gr Remington CoreLokts...
