Love my 700s. As soon as I got familiar with them back in the day, I got rid of every single Ruger I had. I still miss the .260, but have it in the 700. There are several 700 models to choose from. Get one that fits your needs and never look back! I have an Encore and am not too impressed, but it's a nice rifle regardless. The barrels vary in price from around $225-$285(approx.) and can get them cheaper off the net and classified forums. My favorite 700 is the .260, but I like the .270 as well.

I love my .700. I have one in .30-06 right now. But will be adding something else in remy 700 this spring. Great shooting, reliable. Did I mention it just flat out shoots great? Classy look to it too.
Good luck and post pics when you get it!

If I was set on a Remington 700 I'd get a older one. Certainly wouldn't want one of the ones made in the last few years. Read up on all the problems people have with newer Remington stuff.

If you want a good bolt action rifle though I think both the Savage model 10 and the Browning A Bolt are much much better choices.

Look at savage, there dead on accurate right out of the box, and they come with a scope already on them.
Thats what I would get.

I took a good look at the new Winchester 70 last week. It has been getting great write ups, has fantastic fit and finish, smooth as glass action, about 700.0 at the local Bass Pro shop. I had been looking for a new bolt gun, and that was head over heals the gun for the money I found.

http://www.eabco.com/encore.html I buy the Bergara Barrels range from low 200 to mid 300 depends on what you want. I go blued so it is cheaper. I have 5 barrels, I looked at a new rifle marlin XLR 750.00 Plus tax I can buy 3 barrels for that price. You have to like to shoot a single shot which i love to do.

It will be expensive when you first start out but i started with the 50 cal. I had 10 weapons stolen so I had to start over. So I said lets go the T/C encore. I will replace one out of the group and that is my Remington pump 30-06. but it wont be the same as the original. That Original Killed My biggest buck.

Search before you buy, with the economy there are some great deals out the.
