You're just...going out to buy a new rifle? How did you settle on the Rem 700?

Oh and, eh...308.

My Rem 700 in .270 cal is about 43 years old, and if I had to buy another rifle tomorrow it would be the same type rifle. Make sure to budget in $300 or so for a quality scope. Don't buy the combo package that some companies offer, the combo scopes aren't worth mounting usually, IMHO.

I couldn't exactly tell you the weight, with scope is. I got my grandson one last Christmas, synthetic, camo with a Bushnell Elite 4200 scope and it is a great shooting rifle, probably about 8.5 pounds or so. I think the rifle was about $503 at Wal Mart.
