RE: Baiting with deer corn
Deer will ingest very little corn compared to all the natural food they eat.Deer will only be at corn pile few minutes. What else eats your corn everything in the woods but beaver.I bait with corn every year my venison taste just as good as anybody. Scatter your corn about 20ft circle.Deer like to browse feed.

Im with the other guys, a few weeks before hand is better, but usually it can't hurt putting it out the day before. I also agree that regular corn is just asgood as the other stuff. I think its just a waste of money, but if you could. Try some molasses corn near some of the regular stuff and see what the deer eat up first, then you'll know if they prefer one over the other. Good Luck!
I think people that don't agree with the topic should just STAY OUT OF IT!!! If you don't like the way some legally hunts, then no one cares. Your not goint to change anyones mind. I don't necessarily agree with some forms of trapping, so you know what I do. I keep my butt out of the trapping forums!!!

if you must bait deer to kill them your not much of a hunter...........you just as well hunt farm animals.

you guys that legally hunt over bait go right ahead ,but i don't call it hunting . in va. it is illegal to bait deer feed deer after sept1. when you don't own land to hunt on and hunt small tracks of land and landowners around you have feeders up all during the season it doesn't take long to get pi$$ed off about the feeding. our game commision does not enforce these laws very often. we had a guy last yr. braggin that he had 50plus deer in his yard daily while we couldn't find one on property next to it. and this guy doesn't hunt ,ever. but claims 'THERE HIS DEER".this year i know of 8 property owners that fed deer thru the season near land i hunt. the only chance you have to kill them is during the rut when they get stupid, after that you are lucky to see a deer.if you guys had to put up with this crap YOU WOULD SOON UNDERSTAND .
what gets me is,every store you go to has bait by the truck loads for sale. this year a friend printed up some cards that tell people that feeding is illegal and put them up on landowners fence post just so they knew they were watched. i don't think anyone listened.
its the same argument as high fences,to me when you build a high fence you should run ALL GAME off your property before you close the gate, then stock your farm animals on your farm. if you want alter the natural growth of your animals then do so,but leave my wild animals alone............i'll hunt them and really feel like i did something other then killing a NAMED DEER I RAISED. the thrill to me is hunting where i don't know what may show up.
most guys that hunt over bait have fell into the industry pushed thought that you must kill a monster buck.i think tv shows about baiting and highfence hunting has ruined our sport.real hunters soon will not exist.

RE: Baiting with deer corn
If its legal over there..and its your thing do it I suppose..
Its illegal in my part of the world...I suppose Id regard it as "shooting"...but not "hunting"...If your not into stalking your prey..outwitting it and you prefer to just sit around and wait for it to wander in..all power to you..I fitted a tree stand last year..sat in it for 10 minutes before i got the urge to go and hunt...for me its all about being in the bush..stalking...learning your preys habits ...thinking like the animal..
But dont consider your kill as a trophy...Unless I 'hunt' my prey its just a kill...nothing more.
You may not agree..but I couldnt care less..these are just my views..the views of a "hunter"....not a "shooter".

RE: Baiting with deer corn
hunting the biggest bucks on the property i have to hunt is my main goal . if i have to feed him to get him where i want him ,it just takes something away from the hunt. i hunt because i truly enjoy spending days in the stand . to me hunting over a bait pile i could kill everything on the property in a few days, just to easy.do as you like ,but i will never like it. i'd just as soon hit one with a car.
