Althou I do neither, the main difference I can see between the 2 is: with baiting you attract the animal to an EXACT spot with unnatural food source, in some instances even to the exact time (timer baiting) the hunter will be there. Food plots on the other hand act just like any other natural food source except enhanced, and merely draw them to the general area (depending on the size and number of plots), to feed on their own natural feeding schedules. And food plots are there year round by their nature whereas baiting requiresquite often trips into hunting area.

Ridge Runner,

Seems I have touched a nerve...

You ever used a feeder?

What does cultivating 1 acre or 5o acres have to do with it? YOU ARE STILL HUNTING OVER FEED! You are still doing something to bring the deer to you. As far as where you put your stand what difference does it make where the stand is set up relative to the food source? If you plant a food plot and you determine the deer are entering on the south side of the food plot do you put your stand on the north side 600 yards away? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

What time do deer start to feed as a rule? Morning and the evening...correct? So you sit over your food plot when they come out right?

YOU ARE STILL HUNTING OVER FEED! Whether someone baits with a feeder or a food plot I simply do not see the difference. IT IS STILL HUNTING OVER FOOD. And what you are saying is if it is planted in the ground it makes a difference? HOW? IT IS NOT THEIR NATURAL food source...So again what is the difference? Also for your information not all feeders have timers. Mine do yes...but not all do. So is it different then if someone uses a gravity feeder?

And by the way the deer DO choose to come to the feeders when they want...That is when they are HUNGRY! Same as when they show up at the FOOD PLOT!

DO YOU UNDERSTAND REAL LOGIC?

Nothing you have said provides any kind of logic that distinguishes the difference. The only thing you have mentioned that provides any LOGIC to support your position is the mention of the TIMER. So I take note of it but the rest?

Frankly if we do not feed them some of them could starve to death. Because we feed them there are more of them and they are in better physical shape. I have seen photos of deer fromother places around where I hunt and the deer were in pretty bad shape. When asked about feeding etc these guys only fed the deer right before they came to hunt. This I would call wrong. If you are going to use the feeder to hunt you should provide said deer the feed year around.Just because there is a feeder that provides corn does not mean that all the deer come to a feeder to feed. We have8 people total hunting on the lease I amon and we all have been there at the same time hunting our areas andwe all usefeeders. Even so we do notusually see the big bucks come to thefeeders. Usually it is the does and theyoung bucks. The advantage of using a feeder is that it does help bring the bucks around the area. I shotboth my bucks this yearfrom my stand and niether one was at one of my feeders nor had theybeen whileI was at my stand.

You baiters go right ahead and ease your mind. If you think it's fine... well have yourself a party. Bait your little hearts out.[8D] Me, I think it screws up deer movement.

Yep I agree is screws up deer movement...so does walking around in the woods....taking a P in the woods....or any one of a number of other things....

I only wish I had 2000+ acres to hunt where I could spot and stalk and try to pattern deer and try to hunt them in what I would call the old fashioned way. Buy unfortunately I do not have that type of money and the only place we can do that on here is public land. It is simply too dangerous to hunt public land here based on my personal experience. Crazy people here. They shoot dogs and everything else thinking they are game...scary.....

Hunting over a food plot or a feeder is still baitingthe deer. THAT IS THE POINT I AM MAKING. If you want to make a point about NOT HUNTING OVER EITHER then you would make some sense to me. But one is no different than the other and the fact that you day you have hunted since 69 does not change that...

I am all for hunting game naturally. You tell me you do not hunt over food plots then you have something to say otherwise it is just hot air.

and by the way I have hunted since 1968....

And I read your other post about KILLING a deer at over 1000 yards...how isthat HUNTING?

It is obvious you and I simply have different opinions about hunting.

Deerhunter61, basically when baiting, you're changing the deer behavior by all the trips to the bait station, thereby conditioning them to come directly to the bait, and that makes them associate food with man scent/man made noises/man shape. When you condition them to know you by the food you bring, that's unatural and makes them fear you less, thereby making them semi-tame to some extent. Remember I do neither,my idea of hunting is still hunting/spot & stalk because for me personally, the stalk is 90% of the hunt. If it ever got to the point that I wouldn't harvest anything without baiting and taming the deer when doing so, I'd quit as I feel the hunt itself is the name of the game-not making the harvest the only important thing. When I'm in the woods, It'swhat I look forward to, not just the harvest but all of it.

Stalkingbear, I appreciate your perspective.I wish I was able to hunt in an area where I could do just as you aredoing. Unfortunately I can not. And I still like to get into the woods and enjoy watching nature and hunting.

RR, I do understand what you are talking about. Yes I actually do have multiple feeders up around the area I hunt. Stillalthough you have notchanged my mind onanything I will give what youhave said some thought.

I can absolutely see the perspective stalkingbear brings to this and to me it is an all or nothing debate. Either you hunt and do not hunt over food source or you do, be it a feeder or a food plot.

My father-in-law uses food plots and feeders and I can tell you the deer activity he gets at the food plots is far greater than what he gets at his feeder.

I don't know what is scarier: People-hunters- actually thinking that that photo-cropped deer earlier on another thread is real [ and they defend that belief ], or people [ hunters ] actually believing that the use of a climbing tree stand is the same as baiting deer.

I hope NY starts with an orange requirement soon
