I take a small strip of fine grit emery paper or sand paper and wrap it around the end of a pencil and take only a couple of light swipes down each side.

Yep, the finer grit, the better on the emory cloth.

maybe a thin ceramic croc stick would work.If you had to I guess you could roll a piece of 1500 grit wetsand paper around a dowel and that would get the job done. It might be tedious but there isn't much to sharpen.

thanks for the suggestions guys...for the time being I am thinking of going the fine grit sandpaper route...1500 grit you think would be ok?

I am ordering one of thos guthook sharpeners eventually though to add to my sharpening kit(s)..maybe after the holidays I'll order one...
