RE: grunt on the first day of bow season
To be honest, I wouldnt call at all until the prerut starts which I dont think has happened yet. For now I would just try to kind of ambush something. MAYBE like 1 grunt if you see a deer thats not coming in or 1 grunt or little baaa call with your mouth to stop one. JMO
What day do you start? I start tomorow and I cant wait.

According to deer researcher T.R. Michels (and other researchers) does and fawns often use a Social Contact Call (Social Grunt)to get back together after they have been seperated, and they will do it all year long -so you can use a grunt anytime you hunt.
He statesthat what most manufacturers refer to as a "doe bleat" is actually the Social Contact Call, which any buck looking for a doe during the rut may respond to.I've called several bucks infrom September through December with this call.
Since deer use it all year long, it is natural, and may bring in a buck, so what have you got to loose? You may attract a buck you don't see.
