well my brother shot his first deer ever last night during the youth season here in iowa. i let him use my muzzleloader, and he did awesome! it was his second outing ever hunting deer. we set up on a cornfield where i knew there would be deer coming to feel because about half an acre of corn was chewed down to ankle height. we got set up at about 330 in my blind, and then the waiting began. with only about 20 minutes of shooting time left, he suddenly whisepered, "there's a deer!" he was the first one to see it, and it came out on the path i thought it would. it walked toward us at 20 yards, and the wind was perfectly in our favor, and then she saw us and i thought "uh oh, game over." she started the whole head bob thing and the only shot opportunity she was giving us was front on at 25 yards. i told my brother to hold off, and then she turned to walk away he let her have it. the shot was perfectpretty much. it was a little high and left, so it blew through both shoulder blades and took out the spine. she dropped on the spot, kicked for a second and it was over. he was so pumped and happy with his first deer! it was about 140-150 on the hoof i'm guessing... should put some good eatin on the table!
