I rarely hunt deer with a rifle, archery is my passion but the time I have it has been my rem 700 in 300 win mag with a Nikon buckmaster in 4.5-14-42 and good ol rem core lokts. Everything I have killed with it from deer to bear and moose has done quick effective work and with the right placement zero waste.

Bushy, AR15, chambered 5.56 using a Centerpoint 9-16x40 Mil-Dot illuminated reciticle, using American Eagle AR-15 polymer tipped 55gr. Multi uses: Hogs, Deer, Coyote...med. game...etc.

Savage 111 30-06 I bought in college in the 1990s. It has a Simmons scope. If it went kaput, I'd grab my Mosin Nagant 91/30.
