Default Difference in Deer and Elk

Learned something interesting this year after I killed my 6th sika deer. I took the National park HQ to check in. And he showed me that sikas who are in the elk family have canine teeth? He showed me that elk have them also. Deer and other grazers tend not too. And generally are for animals who are carnivores.

Does any wildlife folks know much about this?

Recent magazine from QDMA had photos of white tail uppers with "canine" teeth. Never seen this personally.

I have always heard of them refered to as canine teeth or dog teeth , both cows and bulls have them . It's hard to believe that people used to kill elk just for the teeth to sell and the meat was left to rot at the beginning of the last century .
