Default Deer's Toes ???

I killed a 7 point Saturday with his toe's all messed up. The tips of his toes looked like they were coming off and all busted up. My Dad said he was an old deer going down hill. Do there feet just get worn out or are they like people and grow new toe nails??

Maybe he spent a lot of time on the hard top and wore them out.

My brother shot two deer last week that looked like that. We were told by a biologist that the deer had EHD over the summer. She said about 30% of the deer that get EHD survive.

A lot of our bucks are like that here from running on rock ledges.. Hardly ever would we see a doe with feet like that though as said our bucks are quite common to have that on thier feet..

That happens alot to older bucks and during the rut to bucks that travel all day and all night looking for hot does. If you look alot for deer tracks in the road (i'm a deer doghunter) it will be easy to spot bigger buck tracks by theakward hoof tracks. Its not neccesarily EHD, i have seen that at least half of the bigger bucks we kill have messed up hooves.
