Default Shotgun Scope

I just bought an 870 - 20ga and am wanting to get some ideas of what scope to put onto it. I don't want to sink a ton of $$$ into it. I would like to get a decent scope around the $ 100 range.

Any suggestions?

Pick up a red dot/green dot. they are designed to take the shock of a shotgun. other sopes may not hold up to well and youcan get one for about $70.00

I have a Remington 870 Express in 12 ga. form. I had a 1.5 x 4 Simmons put on. It has a pretty beefy side mounted scope plate (can post pic if you want). I've had it for 3 yrs now and it seems to be holding up well. I don't shoot very often though. Cost was just under $100 for the whole setup. I wish I had a bit more power as I'm very comfortable shooting this gun to 125 yards and with my eyes the 4X isn't enough.

Don't waste your time and money when you will eventually go out and buy a Nikon prostaff 2-7x32 shotgun scope. Great performer.

With rifled slugs in a smoothbore I like a red dot, but with the longer range, and better accuracy of sabot slugs from a rifled barrel I like a 2x-4x variable.

THE most important thing to look for in a sluggun scope, aside from durability, is eye relief. You want to be able to see through the tube without being right up near it. Bushnell makes a Banner line 2-4x with 6" of eye relief.

Keep the scope on low power for fast shots up close, and turn it up if you have time for a longer one.

I had a Bushnell Banner on my Mossberg 835 and the eye relief was great.
