I would like to learn to use the aerial and topo maps more, don't really understand how to determine what is what on a topo map.

ORIGINAL: Stainless

All my hunting is done on public lands so I get a lot of leg work. I couldn't compile it all together with out my gps. That is my best tool.
I agree with Stainless, other than my bow/muzzleloader, my GPS is with me on every trip....hunting or scouting. Prior to the gps, I would pass a tree or general area and try to make a mental note. Those mental notes get deleted over time.

Favorite recent gadget? GoogleEarth (use it, trust me, you'll love it)

Worst? Probably my deer calls/scents as I can't hunt during the rut and mostly we have mule deer that don't really respond to much of those things outside the rut.

My favorite gadget, being from deep Texas is the ThermaCell Mosquito repellent. About $20.00. This thing works great. Kepps them skittos of me for as long as it runs.

I posted my favorites earlier, but I have to add, compact digital cameras are also one of my favorite gagets.

About the only things I don't like are all the skinning/field dressing gagets. I prefer a simple sharp knife & hacksawto take care ofeverything.

Power, I agree. I have been messing around with Google Earth as well as Microsoft Visual Earth the last two weeks.

I also invested in a digital camera last week to start saving the memories.
