When Should I Start Hanging Stands?
I hunt in West Central IL and have always used a climber in the years past. This year I've purchased a couple of hang on stands and ladder stands. I was wondering when I should get these out into the woods. I was thinking late July early August but wasn't sure if I need to get them out any earlier. Thanks!!!

You are about right. I start new stand placement late June or early July. I then do some scouting from the stands just to see what I can see. This gives me some time for a move if I have to. Once I like where they are at I don't disturb the area for a few weeks before hunting season.

Here in Michigan were not allowed to place any type of treestand on state or public land until the 1st of September , however those who own private land can do what ever they want , after all it's there land.
I would check your state's rules and regulations guide book if your thinking of placing stands on public or state land.

I try to get out there usually mid July, find some spots, trim a few shooting lanes and leave the spots for a few more weeks. Then I go in and hang the stands accordingly. Theres nothing worse than a drastic change all at once to spook the deer and move their travel routes.

I'm heading to Southern Illinois within the next month to replace my 2 man ladder stand with a new one and bring the other back for repairs. Water got in the 1x1 tubing where the seat mounts to the floor and froze and split the metal. I'd say within the next two months you would be OK. September would be pushing it I think. Also plan on trimming a few trees back and maybe split some wood.

As everyone else has mentioned, whenever you want to get out there and set-up, do it. However, I generally wait for a day when rain is predicted, this way I feel my imact is minimalto the area. Even if the buck I want is nowhere near that area this time of year, I just don't like the thought of tipping off or alerting any ultra spooky mature deer. Good luck to ya
