Moon phase and position, matter?
OK guys, thanks to everyone who has helped out so far, this year, and last.
The results are in and some popular myths about the influence of the moon may be beginning to fade. I have made some comparisons of moon phase and position like I have been promising all year. They are located at
www.thehunterseye.com/moon.htm
Please feel free to make any questions, suggestions or comments.
Thanks,
Johnnie

Interesting results, I must say that the data shows exactly the opposite of what a lot of folks tend to beleive, that the deer feed all night on a full moon and bed down before sunup. I have never really paid attention to the phase of the moon when it comes to hunting, weather fronts have far more of an effect on deer than the moon in my book, and the more you hunt the better your chances no matter what phase the moon is in.

Hmmmmm. Makes me think. Naw thats a bad thing, can't think to much.
I agree with Tazman. I feel the weather plays more of a factor as far as movement and being seen. But, I have to say I have played the
Full Moon/New moon game. So maybe a little switch-a-roo will do?<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Well, it at least makes me re-think some of my experiences. I know now that if given the choice to hunt mid-day. I'll take a full moon day over New.

the way I look at it is when the moon is full the deer can see a bit better for predators and will move more during the night. When the moon is new or whatever it is a bit darker and they will still move but I don't think near as much and you have a better chance of seeing them during the morning hours. Just what I think, I tend to see more deer out in the fields at night when there is a full moon then when there is a new or quarters.

first of all deer do not follow any of our rules that we try to enforce on them lol
The best time to go hunting is... EVERY TIME YOU CAN <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
I think deer are not really all that different from US. They want to eat every few hours and get several hours of rest each day. Deer can see much better than us in low light...but they cannot see in total darkness. It makes sense that they would be more active on nites with a full moon due to the fact that they can see better than when its totally dark. If they feed more at nite then it also makes sense that they would be having a period of rest come daybreak and then be up and moving around again more towards midday. After a nite of total darkness they are eager to get a feed and are more active at daybreak.
