MOre on rifles
Maybe this is a better way to do it. What is the most accurate rifle to use deer hunting. Would it be the Remington 700 VS? If my 7mm can shoot 700 yards what is the difference in it or the 700 VS?

Goto remmingtons website, get caliber info on a VS. Than check the ballistic charts for those calibers and ammo available for hunting deer. Cross reference that with the 7MM Rem Mag and the bullet you use. The magic number is 1000 Foot pounds of Energy at the distance you want to shoot, to be consider reliable, ethical, lethal or whatever for hunting deer.
Example a Rem 6 MM shooting 100 Gr corelokt has about 1000 at 350, given a 7 Rem Mag with 150 Grain Corelokt it is something like 600 or 700 yards.
Another useful tool Remmington use to have is Rem. Shoot it is a free download Ballistic Program. Check it out it if available it maybe able to help answer some your questions and narrow the choices.
I personally think if you want long range you need to up the power, just as a rule of thumb use the 1000 lbs rule.

the most accurate rifle would be a custom rilfe hand built by a professional gunsmith using all the best parts made to fit you like a glove in the caliber you want...no factory rifle can compare...if u can shoot your gun out to 700yds why change?? the caliber can do it..and if you can your set...why get a VS?? 700yds is a pretty far shot on deer...if you can take them that far with a foactory rifle your a pretty bad dude in my book...

Mauser, people who take 7o0 yrd shots at deer are not bad dudes they are jerks who have no respect for the game their hunting, I have let it be known in the past how I feel about these long shots and if you can't get any closer than 700 yds than don't call yourself a hunter, don't let any one fool you that it is common to make such long shots on game, there is so many variables that can go wrong in takeing such shots, and at what cost? , in wounding an animal,????

bobby...you may be right and i wouldnt consider them bad dudes...now if the person can accurately take deer with one shot that far..hes a bad dude....my friend and his dad take shots from 100-600yds all the time and they use lots of ammo and i would NEVER consider them bad dudes...their deer look like swiss cheese before they die...and the son told me it would be so much easier to hunt like me putting one round in the gun and hunting the deers bedrooms in a thicket with shots under 50yds...he doesnt realize he can smell like what he wants and have the wind wrong where he hunts and still see deer...if the winds a hair off in my woods im busted..i just laughed to my self and said whatever! i think they are pretty pathetic...the boy i know for a fact he has 2 magazines one in the gun and one loaded in his pocket and tons of ammo on him and more in the truck! the last deer i seen had 8 body hits and one in the rack...that was a pathetic sight...but if they did it cleanly with one hit and a clean kill id put them in the bad dude book....so you are right bobby unless hes taking them with one shot...

Actually if you take a 700 yard shot at a deer you have no business hunting. The average hunter will have trouble with 300.
ceaser8, just because a rifle will shoot a certain distance doesn't mean the shooter can hit anything, and it also doesn't mean the bullet will have sufficient energy to make a humane kill. Now as far as your accuracy question, first of all, what 7mm are you talking about? There are at least a dozen different rounds that are 7mm. Also, what is your 700 VS chambered in?

Frizzellr-Your advice is very close to the advice I gave in replying to ceaser8's other thread (important please help)A long range rifle does not make one a long range shooter.Only skill and practise together with a proper rifle and loads make one a long range shooter.I practise regularly at various distances on our local 550 yard range, and have custom rifles that will consistantly shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yards with proper loads, and I own a 1200 yard laser rangefinder and I would not consider ever shooting at any game at over 500 yards.I won't even shoot that far unless the conditions are perfect. There are far too many beginners out there with the idea that buying long range equipment will make them a long range shooter.

RE: MOre on rifles
Yup, I answered a thread just like this one on another BB. I just can't believe that anyone could think that the accuracy of a gun and the shooter have anything in common. While in the service I shot some of the most accurate firearms known to man and did quiet well with them. I can still make those shots with the right equipment. Would I take one of those to the woods with me? He11 no!!!! I don't have that kind of energy. In 42 yrs of hunting deer and other large game the longest shot I have made was about 250yds, most have been in the 50 to 75yd range. This fellow is apperently fixated on the marine sniper units and figures that if he can't be one he will pretend to be. I'm sorry if this sounds brutal but we do get tired of repeating the same thing over and over. The Mod 700VS in 7mm will shoot as well as any standard rifle in 7mm. there is not that much difference and holding even 4" groups at 700+ yards (300yds for that matter) is something that the average joe just can't do with an off the shelf gun.
We had people like this try out (to shoot long range for special assignment) but only 1 or 2 out of maybe every 500 would even get past the first round of firing. Sorry if I got long winded but it just kind of gripes my butt.
