Your Thoughts on High Fenced Hunting
#51
I would not be one to point fingers ...if it is legal then who is to judge ...however I would not call it "hunting" because its not....when you pin up a hog and kill it they call it "slaughter" ..when you pin up a cow and kill it they call it "slaughter" ...I would have to categorize this as the same thing.

I've watched tons of hunting videos and when I was younger I would watcha lot ofhunts in Texas and all of these deer would come out on thedirt roads and be grazing around. Being "ignorant" to what kind of area they were hunting I was always like "What are all of those deer doing in the open like that and what are theyeating?"Well eventually Ilearned that the spreader trucks drive down the roads spreading feed and corn and many of those ranches are fenced inone way or another. Not really my thing and I guess in the back of my head I don't admire or look up to huntersthat hunt in that fashionbut I will still respect their right to do so.

To each his own, we all need to stay united regardless.

My personal opinion... It depends on the size of the fenced property. I've hunted both. So, I think I've got a better perspective than many of you who have never hunted high fence. At both places, the techniques are the same. Set up a blind in a high traffic area, and wait for a good one ot walk by within shooting range. I noted no difference in the animals behavior at the high fenced ranch or the low fenced ranch. The only real difference was that the high fenced place had an older population. I've actually had much easier shots onthe low fenced property that I hunt now than on the high fenced property I hunted 10 years ago.

To correct you Rammer, not all places in Texas are high-fenced. My family had 80 acres of FREE-RANGE, there was no high fence even remotely close to us. Also, I have hunted a ranch in Comfort, 1400 acres FREE RANGE, and there was one high fenced place around that area for youth hunters. Then I hunted in Del Rio. Hardest hunt of my life, completely free range, and i maybe saw 2 deer the whole week and went home with nothing. You cannot judge the whole state, I realize there are a lot of places high fenced there, but not all.
