Man I love snow!
I went out yesterday to do a little scouting since I can't hunt on Sundays in Va. I loved it, it answered some questions on where they are entering and leaving this huge area they bed in, there were a lot of trails in and out and with out a game camera I was not sure what trails they are using, now I know. It also confirmed 2 other spots where I had considered taking stand on as being winners also. I am giving the area a rest since I was there yesterday, but plan on hunting tuesday afternoon, hopefully I will finally get another try at the monster 6 point that I only saw once last year.

We hardly ever get it during deer season in Va. I am truely jealous of folks that get it every deer season. It is one thing to find well used trails, but knowing the ones that are currently in use is so much better, don't get me wrong rain helps to, but with snow you can tell at a distance without disturbing the area to much.

GOod luck Taz -
As much as I like snow for deer hunting, it gets old too. We've had snow since mid Nov. this year, it does let you know how the deer move about, but so many tracks are made at night, you sometimes wonder "where are all these ghost deer?" - At least you know they are around though. It can be tough sitting for long periods, -10 degrees here this morning.
If the snow stays for you, and people move the deer around, look for "esacpe route" trails - where deer have run out of a thicket, etc. These areas will produce year after year if you have any hunting pressure, snow can be great for gaining this info.

Taz...I agree! We had 10" at my house, and I was out yesterday scouting as well. It does give you alot of info. Like Saturday when I was out...and I came across a set of footprints...it was an easy track...found some yahoo sitting on a treetop, blubbering out he's sorry and didn't know where he was...yeah right. He only had to walk past about 50 posted signs to get to where he was. I talked with my neighbor and apparently there are a whole group of idiots that came and started hunting on both of us(mostly on him)..without even coming close to having permission. Heck, they even posted some of his land with their own signs...LOL...some people. He's hot about it, and getting the law involved. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
My scouting trip yesterday did turn out good though ...just like you, I found some new stuff, and confirmed a few things I thought were going on. It's nice to get snow once in a while during the season...although 4 degrees can stay up north!!! Man was it cold Sat morning(or at least for around here, and this time of year). FH, I guess for you guys....it would get old...with nothing but snow alot of the time.

RE: Man I love snow!
The great thing about this bedding area is it is right across the road from a hunt club that has a couple of thousand acres, the area is about 5-6 acres of 6-10 foot pines, tall grass and briars, there is a clear area inbetween the bedding area varying from 20-50 feet of clear space that leads right into a large area of oaks. They leave real late in the day and return early in the morning. This should provide me with an excellent ambush area. Fortunantly the snow is melting now during the day in the open areas, yet still hanging around in the shadows so I should be able to see them before they break into the clear to allow me to set up for a shot.
