Hey New:
If I ever get the chance to spend some time in Va. I might give you a call to see if I can tag along on a couple of drives, I don't care about shooting a deer, just listen to a few good races. I dog hunted for about 35 years with some of the best dogs and deer hunters you could ever want to meet, then about 6 years ago it became impossible to lease the amount of contiguous land to enjoy dog hunting. Now we sit in a dang tree like a bird. I havn't heard a good race in several years, the last one I can remember I was looking at a tract of land and 3 or 4 dogs had one going. I just sat down under a big pine tree and enjoyed it.

NEW I applaud you for sticking to your beliefs. I myself use to hunt with dogs before I left to go into the Marines. Since I have been back I chose not to hunt with them. In Louisiana we have a month of still hunt only followed by a month of dog season. From my experience with our local dog runners is that they release their hounds in late October and won't pick them back up until the end of the season in January. Now I am sure that you don't do this with your dogs nor do most honorable dog hunters. Personally I have seen twice the deer without hunting with dogs then hunting with them. I have killed 10 times as many deer w/o, than with too. I love to hear a good hound as much as the next guy but, I also love hunting when there are none around. You have made the statement that the Ga. regs do not affect you. As of today you are correct but, that's not to say that within the next 5 years there could be a push to so the same things in your neck of the woods. That's what most people don't think about. Oh that doesn't affect me so I'm not going to worry about it. Then before you know it the same situation is snowballing right to you and all you had to do was pay closer attention back to when it didn't directly affect you, and that could have prevented it all together. In the state of Louisiana dog hunting will never be outlawed so, I don't get to worked up about it because there is nothing that I can do about it. We attend the local DNR meeting and are out numbered 5 to 1 in most cases. I have seen the ugly side of hunting in my 20+ years of hunting, I have seen dogs shot, & people beat up. I have seen bad hunting ethics from non-dog hunters and dog hunters. Most of the dog hunters that I know are very honorable people, they take very good care of their animals and do thier best to head thier animals off before they cross the property lines. There are a few that give them a bad name just as there are a few still hunters that give us all a bad name. Bottom line is we are all hunters and we should respect each others rights.
This is just my opinion, for what it's worth.

i think dog hunting is cheating i think that if you use dogs your just tryin to find a easyer way to get a deer i like to stand great feeling of knowing that you brought that deer in not somone else who was walking or driving or running dogs.

How the hell is stand hunting a difficult way to hunt. You find a travel route, put up a stand and sit on your ass untill a deer walks past.I do it myself but you make it sound as id its some sort of monumental undertaking to kill a deer while your perched 15 ft above them.it isnt all that difficult and can in fact be as boring as watching paint dry at times.Almost anyone could stand hunt and kill deer consistently every year, sorry to burst your bubble.
The tresspassing, dogs going into public property, confrontations, these are all valid reasons, but saying that somethings easier then sitting in a treestand is about as far from reality as you can get.

yep and another thing, if some of these folks so admantly believe that dog hunters shouldn't be running "they're deer" on "they're land" ruining "they're hunting" then the landowners need to take responsibility to keep "theyre deer" on "they're property" and not let them wonder onto public lands, roads, and neighboring properties.
So I think legislation needs to be inacted that requires posted grounds in dog hunting areas to be high fenced, at the owners, leasee's expense.

Thank godness today is the last day. tommorow i will start picking up dogs. they always go to my kennels when they become tired. I catch them feed them and water them. I would not shot someone elses dog although the thought has crossed my mind. I want to give the dog a fair chance it is not the dogs fault that his owner is sorry.
Also i have lost a bird dog before never on a hunt but, i have had them get out of the kennel and run off. I was thankfull that no one shot him. So i will show the samecompassion to everyone elses dogs.

I hear lots of people talk about dog huntingnot being fair and they prefer to go one on one with their quarry andthe only way I can respond is this:
"One on one with your quarry".....well isn't that noble. Again with thetalk of fairness. Hunting is not fair!! We are far more intelligent than deer and that aloneblows the whole "fairness" issue out of the water.I'll insert my original fairness rebuttal here:
"Hunting is not fair. For hunting to be fair deer would have to have larger brains capable of much more complex thought. They would also have to be armed and capable of shooting back. Now that would be fair!! How many would be lining up to buy licenses then? Fair, let's be realistic. "
Dogs are just a tool some use. Do you use anything to aid you in your "one on one" pursuit? Like deer urine, scent eliminator, high tech camo suits, stands, trail cams, aerial photos, topo maps, food plots/baiting (there is a good one, that's "fair")the list goes on and on and on. Now let's talk about fair.
Not trying to be a jerk just speaking from the other side on this one, no offense meant to anyone.
If it seems a little out of context it is becauseI posted thison another thread but I thought it kind offit here as well.

I haven't hunted with dogs in 10 years but man was it exciting. I can understand both sides of this arguement. So I can't take a side but I think all hunters should stand together.
