RE: .25-06 under rated?

Recently my buddy (shoots a 270 win) went hunting in sw Texas and he said that the boys down there swear by the 25-06. Never shot one but only heard good things about it.

I was actually looking for a 25-06 when I got my 270 last year. My "gun guy" didn't have any in at the time so..... It came highly recommended from my cousin who is kinda a gun freak. Yeah, he has the $$ for the toys. [:@]

I still would like to have one though. :D BTW, BOTH of the deer I've shot this year w/ my 270 have went 40 yds MAX after impact. That's w/ a 130 grn Hornady. I'm sure the 25-06 will give VERY similar results.

I have one in a Tikka and love it. Absolutely hot death on whitetails. I shoot the 117 gr hornady interlock out of mine.

I bought a NEF 25-06 to shoot does with Crop Damage Permits . It does the trick with 130 grain Core-Lokt bullets !

The .25-06 is an excellent cartridge. I'd be lost without mine. It shoots nice and flat, bucks wind well, and since I handload, I can load down to 75 gr. v-max bullets (that shoot very fast and very accurately, I might add;)), to Accubonds, Partitions, and the likes up to 120 grains.

I would have no problems using my 25-06 on elk-sized game if given the opportunity.

I have a Winchester ADL 25-06 and that is my favorite gun out of the 4 deer rifles I have! Flat shooting, super fast, and pack a good punch without to much damage done to the deer! I recomend it!

why do so many people knock the .25-06?
I'll admit that I haven't read this entire thread, but I'm not sure what the quote above is based on. I joined HuntingNet in 2000 and have only heard good things about the 25-06, I don't think that I have ever read a derogatory statement about the round (except maybe if someone asked if it was a good round for moose). I'd love to try one out, but the only one I have ever seen up here was being put away at sundown by an out of towner so I've never had the plreasure.

Who knocks the 25-06? Well, besides the magnum manly crowd who think a whitetail should be missing most of its shoulders to be truly dead?

Yeah, you have your foot in your mouth.:DMore magnum stereotypes displayed by uninformed shooters.
