.25-06 under rated?

.25-06 under rated?
why do so many people knock the .25-06? they refer to it as a "childs gun", "woman's gun", "toy gun", "starter gun", etc. are we as americans so hung up on over doing everything or trying to do something "better" that we naturally go straight to the "magnum" calibers?
i'm not trying to start fights or arguements, just wondering why we tend to overdo some things (i'm guilty of this myself). below i provided a link to centerfire rifle information. it gives information on the basic calibers and the game that can be harvested with them at different range. hope ya'll find this as interesting as i did.

That's my caliber, and I love it, don't know why anyone would want to shoot whitetail with anything bigger! I use the Rem. Corlock, (sorry for spelling) in 120grn.and it is more than sufficiant!

i just bought a T/C Encore Prohunter in this caliber. after seeing my father shoot this caliber for approximately 20 years, i realized he may be on to something. why beat the hell outta my shoulder shooting a .300 Wby Mag. when a more pleasant shooting rifle will get the job done just as quick.

My father has this caliber. It's deadly on whitetailand antelope. It's flat shooting as well. The only drawback I see to it, is it's lack of a variety of bullet weights. It's also really just for deer sized game. I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to kill an elk with it.

i agree with lack of bullet (grain) arguement but with it being a .25 caliber, you don't wanna over do the projectile. if you do, you sacrafice the speed and trajectory...which is what makes the .25-06 so good.

i've also always been one in believing shot placement is what counts. back in the day, people (President Roosevelt) use to hunt elephants with a .30-06. if someone mentioned they do that on here...they would be laughed off the web.

I love those quarter-bores.I had a Rem M700 in 25-06 and a Ruger No.1 in .257Roberts--wish I still had them.My brother always hunted with big-bores like 45-70,350mags and the deer I killed with the 25's where just as dead as the ones he killed.

I wouldn't say that the .25's are "under-rated." They are excellent! They suffer from "under-exposure" The .243 has a good following for the lighter side , and today, there is the "bigger-is-better" craze! The 25-06, .257R, .260, and .264 WM have been lost in the middle! Any of these are great deer cartridges, they just don't get the exposure needed to win the "Oscar's!"

Love the 25-06 it has much more going for it than the popular .243(). I planon building a .257 caliber deer rifle, just haven't deceided the chambering - go with the plain 2506, AI or .257 weatherby.

I had always wanted a .25-06 and finally got one last fall in the Ruger MKII. Shot a doe and 200lb buck with it and both fell in their tracks. It now gets more time in the fieldthan my .270.
