The 25-06 is great cartridge for deer and varmints, very little recoil, doesn't have excessive muzzle blast.

My friends think 270's aren't deer guns and they are for kids. They all made fun of me and they called me stupid cause I shoot deer with a 130 grain bullets. MY friends is all about "the bigger the gun the better!" I tell him it doesn't matter what you shoot with as long as you hit the vitals.

Never heard anything bad about the 25-06 myself. On a Canadian forum I asked for deer rifle suggestions (something to go along with my 300WM) the 25-06 was the most recommended. I'll admit that it surprised me a bit but I've been looking at one for a deer/coyote rifle ever since.

If you can do it with the respected .270Win/130gr combo you should be able to do it with a 25-06/120gr combo. Plus, you get lighter bullets for varmints and predators. That sounds pretty good to me! ;)

I use a .25-06 and have never had to shoot a deer more than once since I started using that caliber. It would be hard to beat imo.

Ok, do this for me, take your friend to the range and ask him to bring his "SuperDuper Magnum" and you bring your little ole' bitty .270, and see who shoots better, I'm willing to bet you win that one.

My dad hunted with a 30-06 all his life but just recently went with a 7mm-08. I always wanted a 25-06 but I believe I'm going to buy a 7mm-08 barrell for my Encore.

mine come in yesterday so i went to the range to shoot it. after i got it sighted in, i only have 2 words to describe it...."tack driver"! i was shooting 3/4" groups at 100 yards. this has to be one of the sweetest shooting rifles i have ever shot. if anyone is reading this and considering buying one, DO IT! you won't regret it. once again, mine is the Thompson Center Encore "Pro Hunter"-Stainless Steel-Realtree Hardwoods Camo Stock-.25-06 caliber Heavy Barrell. i did purchase a Pentax Light Seeker Scope for it while i was down there. the scope is working flawlessly.

My father has this caliber. It's deadly on whitetailand antelope. It's flat shooting as well. The only drawback I see to it, is it's lack of a variety of bullet weights. It's also really just for deer sized game. I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to kill an elk with it.

thats what made me move up to a 30-06. i really like a 25-06 but it just seems a bit limited. with my 06 i can hunt just about anything i want. plust with the 125 grain bullets the 30-06 shoots pretty danged flat.
