RE: bad dog(s)!!

Wow ive been away since friday and missed some good stuff ,I understand what some of these dog lovers mean ,i have 5 dogs and live way out in the sticks, try to keep them up during deer season. But i also over see several hunting leases and get paid to make sure the deer arnt harrassed by anything human or animals ,and im damn good at that job ,dont like it when it has to be done but it gets done.I dont have time to go serch for dog owners and call wardens and have them running all over the farms looking for these dogs,So whatever the certain person does with there dog problems is up to them ,,i personally am out there to deer hunt ,and nothing inrages me more to have a dog or a pack of dogs causing problems. So i think you see where i stand.. PS If you do complain to the dog owner and he fails to controll his dog and he [dog]comes up missing their automaticly going to persume you had something to do with it,and the feud will be on ,so the best thing is not to say nothing and you know nothing, you aint seen sh**..

in the state of Michigan... Only a law officer or CO may dispatch a domestic animal which is deemed to be molesting wildlife... You or I may only dispatch that animal if it is chasing, molesting or injuring livestock or other humans... And if you as an owner allow your pet *unsupervised* to molest, chase or injure livestock you are legally (civilly and criminally) liable for any damage or injuries incurred....

being a farmer, i know this law well :) thank god i've never had to "enforce" it...

Like it read in the fourth line my land owners i over see for do not want any one looking for some dog and spooking the deer any worse than the dogs allready have,or need any law out there doing what they exspect me to do.So as long as i get free hunting privalges i do what is needed,to keep the deer happy and the land owners.P>S> i know most of the dog owners and some times they ask have you seen little [scobbie] and i can look em right in the eye and say nope. and that way theres no hard feelings and everyones remains friends. what i really dislike worst than dogs is house cats we really get after them,,they kill like dogs just for fun.i once watch a cat kill a whole litter of baby rabbits then walked away and did not eat nothing, and then his 9 lives came to an end ..Im not protecting livestock or humans,,i protect the wild animals from domestic animals.Im not saying this makes me right but it makes me feel better. SO IF YOU HAVE HAD SOME PETS COME UP MISSING THIS COULD BE WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM SO KEEP TINKER BELL AND FIDO UP ..SORRY..

Here in Indiana, if you get caught being cruel to animals, you get prison time and a HUGE fine.

now if it were my dog/s being shot.......there would be some trouble. Ive had dogs come up missing numerous times. My grandma saw a guy shooting at MY dogs and it wasnt his property. He got lucky that I didnt find out who he was. But the sad part about it... none of my dogs came home that day :(there was NO hunting seasons in, and he had no right to be using my dogs for target practice.

You almost seem proud that your dogs were running at large. Doesn't IN have any sort or leash or restraint laws for dogs. Even after numerous dogs not coming home it is apparent you haven't learned a thing.

So if anyone shoots stray mutts it is a bad thing (because that isn't what you want or like). But it's perfectly fine for you to turn your nose up at the leash laws and have your dogs run loose because that is what you want or like. That is what is called a hypocrit.

Oh well - more coyote food.

(Now here comes the part where the dogs either "broke free of their leash", "dug their way out under the fence", "broke the fence", "jumped the fence", "slipped out the door" or other BS "excuse".)

The main thing is here, the differance between ferel and pet dogs. I have in the past raised sheep on 40 acres and we had a ram (male stud sheep) in a smaller pen because it was fairly mean (most not casturated breading animals are). I get home one day and the ram is dead and two very obvious ferel dogs are stuck in the pen. Now i could tell that the ram had been dead for a couple of hours, but not a bite of it was eaten by the dogs. The dogs couldnt get back out of the cage, so to protect my ass, I called tyhe DNR and told them the situation. There answer was, that if you could tell that the animals are not someones pet (fairly easy to do) you should shoot them. He said that ferel dogs cause a lot of damage to livestock, peoples real pets and the wildlife, and that getting rid of them is the best thing to do. Now I'm not proud that we disposed of these dogs, but am I happy to know that they wont be coming back and killing more of my livelyhood, youre damn strait. And to reiterate, We didnt shoot someones pets and I would not shoot someones pet, but wild ferel dogs are good as dead.

I also did hear of another kinder way to deal with someones pets if they are causing problems. I have not tried this as I have not had the problem as of yet, but on another board (or this one a while ago), someone said if you used one of those big rubber blunt points on an arrow that it would hurt but not injure the dog, and help teach it to stay off your property.

I dont blame you over your ram im sorry, you did more than i would have like making a phone callto the law as far as im concerned that was your dogs then to do what you wanted.I have hunted wild hogs with a bowie knife after the dogs have bayed it and cornered it ,as seen on tv sometime, thats what i probably would have done with the penned up dogs you see where im going right..And the only thing different from a feral dog and a family pet ,is that little pink collar that comes in handy when there tossed in the thicket.
