If the blood trail is gone just try and find the most well used trails the deer use. Usually if you walk the trails you can see where most of the deer go. And hopefully you will get lucky and find it. Good luck.

IMO a deer that is hurt badly won't neessarily stay on a deer trail.

It may be worth a look but checking for sign throughout that entire area is crucial.
