I have 2 main deer stands and I hunt them both as much as possible. I don't get to go everyday so when I do get a chance I am in 1 or the other. I usually just pick whichever one I feel like going to and head that way.
ON Saturdays and days my dad take off to hunt we usually use both

I always have several stands hung (8 to 10) I will rotate between them to keep them fresh.Some stands will go cold even with seemingly very meticulous attention to scent detail and some area's are more conducive to staying productive.
What typically happens for me is a couple of stands will be much hotter than the others and then I have to use a lot of discipline and common sense to hunt them wisely.

This is definitely one of my faullts when it comes to deer hunting. I seem to overhunt an area. I am a dedicated treestand hunter and will stay in the same tree for days. It seem whatever location I select after scouting, is where I will spend lots of time.
I know the areas well and have seen and shot deer from there year after year.Some areas never have a lot of sign but the deer definitely move thru the area. Most shots are well within 35 yds and some deer can move thru without being detected...(I am sure of that...
)
Also, I can see deer any time during the day and under most weather conditions. Believe it or not, the last few deer I have tagged where mid daywith very high winds. The kind of day you would least expect to see a lot deer activity.
Sometimes I get the attitude -The longer I stay the better my odds - I guess it's how comfortable you feel in your area....Whenever I get situated in my stand and get that feeling It just don't feel right....that's when I finally relocate. In the past that logic has served me well, but I also know if mave have been the worse decision I could have made.
A friend has suggestd the "three sit rule", where one sit = 1/2 day. Soooo, after a day and a half in the same stand, if there's no activity, it's time to move. Does it work, I'll let ya know....'cause you surely don't want to spend hours (or days) where the deer aren't!

Good topic and much like JimmyS I tend to sit in one stand too much. This year I will have 4-5 different stand locations and I will try not to wear out one stand.

Like so many questions that come up on here - it depends. How many deer do you spook getting in? That's really the key question. I have one stand that I could hunt every day of the season IF the wind was right.

I have two treestands and portable ground blind so I never hunt the same two days in a row.
I'll stay in one stand all day then move to the other the next and with my ground blind after that.

Unless you are getting busted by deer, why couldn't you hunt a stand for a while. I have had years that I hunted the same stand every day and seen lots of deer every day. The only reason I hunt multiple stands is to see a greater variety of deer and to get some different scenery. It seems that every time I switch stands, I spend a lot of time thinking about what is passing by the other one.
If I spooked deer though, I might give the stand a little time off. But I have spooked a buck and had it come right by again the next day. I think that depends on whether you are hunting the rut or hunting early season. I think they are more likely to avoid an area after being spooked outside of the rut.

If I'm seeing deer I hunt the hell out of the stand. Up here if land is not posted you can hunt it. And that means that most private land is up for grabs and its very rare you have a place all to your self. So before some one moves in on me I hunt till the deer don't come by me. Then I'll leave the stand there and hunt from another one. I won't go back for a couple weeks which is usually enough time to cool the area off. (Mostly hunting small wood lots) I have one stand in CT. and thats it I shoot multiple deer there every year. My trick is to find a good funnel deer will leave if pressured but if its a good spot they will be back. Oh by the way I'm a meat hunter too. A nice rack is great but thats just a plus.

I have three ladder stands on the land that I hunt, plus one climber that lets me be a more moble. I hunt the ladder stands both morning and evening and if I plan on hunting the next day I will hunt that next morning. If nothing produced out of the three hunts, I will move to one of my other stands. Wind direction and feeding times also help me pick which stand to hunt out of for the day.
