Most likely at night, but during the rut they can show up any time of the day. It probably depends on how many does are in the area.

I hunted near a scrap ( 30 yards off to my left ) well within view and I saw more deer ( bucks and does ) checking it in the early morning hours.
But in the late eveing hours only bucks came around which is a good thing in my book.

Studies have shown that the majority of scrape checking by deer is done at night .

In my experience, the more out in the open a scrape is, the tendency is for nightime visits only. If you can find one in the middle of a briar patch or other type of heavy cover, you stand a better chance of catching a buck tending in during the daytime.

Also after a rain...bucks feel that they have to refresh it. Read numerous articles on this and last year shot a 7 point in WV 45 minutes after it finished raining.

Just based on my experiance with trail cams on scrapes, there was quite a bit more buck activity in the nite time hours. but still some usage in the daytime hours also.
