king snake is right but that comment about coral snakes not getting bigger than a foot is a crock.....i've seen them .....it's true the kings are longer, but dont think just because a snake is longer than a foot that it's not a coral.....go with the red touched yellow kills a fellow....i like to think of the seminoles, garrent and gold, is just as bad as red touching yellow, lol....

Most definitely a scarlet king snake and harmless. The coral is red then yellow. If you see that combination, stay clear, mean bite.

I think the Coral Snake can't actually strike you. It has a very small mouth and needs to find a place like the web of your hand between the thumb and forefinger to chew a spot. Seems like they don't have fangs like a rattlesnake. Biggest one I've ever seen was about 17", but you don't see many of them around here.

Right about that Timber.Although I'm pretty sure they could stillopen their mouth wide enough to bite about anywhere.

Their toxin is also not the same as Rattlesnakes or other "pit vipers" which generally have hemo-toxin I believe. Corals use neuro-toxin and I believe it is much harder to treat through anti-venom procedures
