southern buck-
u think offering him 300$ will be sufficient, or you think he will laugh at me. lol. b/c i am hearing 5-10$ an acre, so 300 $ for about 300 acres seems very cheap, do u think it would be apprpriate?

Come on guys, this is EASY!! All you gotta do, is lease ONE acre. Pick one in the middle. See, you're all set.

Offer him what you can honestly afford and what it would be worth to you. It's more than what he is getting now. Who knows your offer may be more than what he is thinking. Besides, you can't offer him more than you can afford. Hecan say yes or no.

I agree with the approach where you come clean and offer him what you can afford. If he doesn't bite orif he starts asking around and he gets some figure like $1500 for the year, your next option is to first check out the property. If it really is a nice piece and you can lock it up, then it's time to start finding a few other guys to go in with you on it. Finding public land only guys who could get into a nice piece for not to much and without the effort of finding the land shouldn't be hard.
