Legally "poaching" would be the correct term??? I didn't want to go there.

Suffering is a part of the sport. But so is the hunter's responsibility to minimize it. That's why we go to the range, pick our shots carefully, and turn them down when conditions might result in a poor shot. It's also why no hunter just stands there looking at a poorly shot deer when it's possible to end its pain. In my book, that's irresponsible and unethical.

Bion your most likely right about it being unreasonable and if you take the time to read my original post I admited I thought about it over night and came to the conclusion " That is was as much my fault as his" I hope that is CLEAR enough ...and the issue was not the fact that is was the button buck if you read the story you will see it just turned out to be the little buck ..I did not expect him to be able to tell if it was a buck or a doe thus why I told him there were TWO ...and ran together ... at anyrate its over with ....

DD You should cut the guy some slack. It is a legal kill and he probably made an honest inexperienced MISTAKE. Be a man and get over it. It isn't the first nor will it be the last button buck killed when the shooter thought it was a doe. As for killing it after dark, thats illegal and I hope I'm never in that situation. Talk to the guy and let him know how you feel. He probably fells worse than you! By the way how come in every DD post there is always animosity and trouble. I think you start these posts just to piss some people off. Also why the Yankee comment. It wasn't needed.

Actually, the illegality of "killing" a deer after dark, under these circumstances is still yet to be fully determined. The ethics of doing so has been judged to be a different issue.

But,this thread is getting too fast and furious for me, and I've got another type of hunting to do that involves a cute redhead. So, I will bid you all goodnight (except for a quick potshot at Jag on another thread).

One final comment though. If I've wounded a deer, I am going to track it til the end, even if it means getting wrestled to the ground by the Secret Service because i followed it to the front lawn of the White House. But, its a country thing that some of you just won't understand.....
