I understand what Red is trying to say, but I think his emotions have diluted his point.

Driving around with a dead deer in plain view in a metro area is probably not a good idea (because of all of the Anti's or fence riders), and I can't imagine too many people doing it..............however, driving around your small rural home town to show your deer off is probably not that big of a deal, an often times it is expected.

Introduce law to keep the dead animal out of view from the public? This is where I think ole' Red is off of hir rocker! What do you want to do Red? Keep supressing and supressing hunters until there is no indication that "we" exist?I have a problem with people trying to legislate simply because they have a personal problem with it. Keep educating.......quit creating laws.

As for the Redneck comments................you have to be kidding me? Come down off of your high horse there Red. Hunting is a Simple man's sport for the most part and a lot of us hunters are "Rednecks". People with your attitude and approach to solve problems be creating laws is what is going to kill hunting all together.

To be totally honest, I tend to have more respect for the deer I just shot than somebody who doesn't realize it takes the killing of an animal to make the hamburger they are eating while driving the kids to soccer practice in their mini-van. Man, sometimes all the kids have a Happy Meal. You talkin about barbaric.

I see deer sometimes that have their tong sticking out with blood dripping off of it, especially in pictures. Or, somebody posted earlier somebody had put a cigar in the deer's mouth and drove it around town. To me this is irresponsible, and shows no respect to the animal. I think if a lot of people knew that most hunters respect the game they hunt, some would have a totally different attitude. But then again I am thinking more about the deer than them.

Red,

I've been following this post pretty closely. I think if you are really interested in getting an opinion on the subject matter itself, you should re-clarify what you are asking.

A lot of the things you adress such as transportation of harvested deer in a non-pickup 4x4 or other vehicle; the reasons behind your thought process and exactly what you would intend on proposing is getting lost due to the name calling. You're getting some good info, but it seems many people are offended by your redneck comments.

Your call, but if you are interested in getting a consensus opinion, try to step back from the name calling; explain what you are talking about and see where it comes out.

Good luck,

I appreciate the postive comments and expected nothing less from those who keep zingin the negatives ones everywhere. Am I emotional about this subject? Damn skippy I am, that is why I am about ready to take it too the legistlature. Obviously those who don't have pickups and want to beride me and say that I am basically telling you to buy a new vehicle, you need to go back and read my original post. I believe I covered that issue by saying cover the animals up with a tarp or one of the commercial "game bags". I have had Suburbans, Tahoes, Broncos etc over the year and whenever my game was on a hitch hauler or on a trailer I simply wrapped the animal up ina heavy duty canvas tarp. If you want to leave the antlers exposed, go right ahead I see nothing wrong with that. I just believe everything else should be covered up.

Again I think to many on here are simply trying to puff their chests out and appear macho and draw snickers and giggles from buddies. That's sad because in the end it is not what I, you or anyther hunters really care or do. Like I said, it's that 75% majority of NON-HUNTERS (not anti's and there is a BIIIG difference) that have the power in their hands. They choose not to hunt for whatever reasons just like I don't care to garden or play golf that much. That doesn't make them any better or worse a human than any of the rest of us, we just should be considerate of their feelings and try to accomodate them a little better than we have in the past.

Sure there was a time in the past when we could ride around proudly with a deer on the hood. We also could carry our rifles onto an airplane and hand them too the stewardess and she would put them in the coat closet until the flight was over. BUT obviously times have changed and as our sport evolves I think we as sportsmen should evolve as well. If we don't the only ones to suffer will be ourselves and future generations of hunters.

I can't make it any clearer or calm than that!

If not, it's your kind of redneck "hunter" that will be the end of our sport as we know it.
Once again what's up with all the name calling? You seem to be eluding the question?

This is about as negative as it gets!

Red,
I am not trying to smart or cute here, but I am serious. If you do the legislation route like you are talking about, you might as well slap a hornet's nest with a big stick.

Guys you can candycoat it all you want, call me whatever you want and shoot the messenger all you want. Bottom line is still the same, this practice of no public display obviously isn't being heeded by the rank and file so that is why some of us feel compelled to go the extra step and get the law involved. You can badmouth me till the cows come home, try and prove your manliness however you want to on a website instead of face too face, but that doesn't change the negative image of hunters many have when they see such antics rolling down mainstreet. If you are to lazy to wrap your kill up in a tarp before strapping him atop your trailer, hitch haul, atc etc then you deserve to be"inconvenienced" by Johnny law when he pulls you over and hands you a ticket for a couple of Benjis. Maybe then you'll "get concerned", put the attitude aside and try and realize what you are doing too the sports future.

Peace out,
RA

ps
Cdavis I appreciate your concern but I am far from "skeert" of the lazy "hunters" who continue to give our sport a bad name and refuse to evolve with the times. Let the hornets buzz, I have plenty of RAID! Self policing is MUCH better than having it done for us, especially when you considerthe alternative ofpolicingdone by politically opposite opponents. Sometimes you have to beat them too it!
