This morning I used a plastic sled for the first time, and I can't believe how much easier it was to drag my deer out of the woods! Well worth the $8, and the trip back to the truck to get it.
To make it even easier, I hooked the sled up to my tree stand harness and pulled him out just like a draft horse... so easy I couldn't belive it!
It's the first deer I ever dragged out that didn't just about make me die of a heart attack!
Just curious... what do you guys use to help you get your deer out of the woods?

I've used a sled before, I had a hard time with it. I was in a hurry though and didn't have it tied correctly. Wagons are great too, especially inareas with time restrictions, with two guys you can race that buck out the woods!!

Bassman, this might sound crazy, but I take satisfaction in the drag out. I don't know why, but I feel like I almost deserve it after taking an animals life..weird huh? But as deep as I have been hunting this year, I may need a sled!

Im still young so i feel its only right to drag the deer out like my father did and still does. I use his old deer drag that he used since he started hunting to drag all his deer out of the woods (a lot of deer with that old drag). Oh and even if my father shoots a deer he'll call me up along with my brother and we'll come and drag it out for him. I feel the drag back is part of the hunt.

I also feel the drag is apart of the hunt, but i hate it when the deer's coat gets all scuffed up from rocks, twigs and such, especially water, it tears it apart and i think that takes away from some of the respect!....but I love dragging em in the snow

Back in 1997 I shot a 7pt on state game land. I had started walking at daylight. At noon I shot a the buck. I thought I'd be out of the woods by 3 or 4pm. Well at 5:30 I left the deer lay on the trail. Went home called a friend to help me. We used a wheelbarrow to get the deer out. I later check the distance. I shot the deer 6 miles from my truck. I dragged it 4.5 miles. Itweighed 175lbs.

Many times I've been so exhausted and winded (but it was still worth it).
I just couldn't believe what a difference a little plastic underneath made, and wish I would have tried this little trick years ago!
I know a few hunters every year have heart attacks and even die trying to get their prize out of the woods. If your one of those guys you know what I'm talking about, so I hope you give this method a try.
