I recently read an article about "Stealing Scrapes". It was talking about taking a shovel and removing the dirt in a scrape from one area, and making a mock scrape in an area you hunt with that dirt. Sounds logical and I might try it. Has any of you ever done this?

Just did it sunday. I made a mock scrape, hung up my scent dripper, and moved some dirt from another scrape to the mock one. Haven't check it yet, but hopefully the big boy's been back to visit it.

Yeah, it does work.
You do need to be careful about contaminating the transplanted materials with your scent, of course.
You can create a new scrape in your hunting spot, or put the materials in an existing scrape.
It is best to collect your materials from a different location,so you can be sure that it comes from a buck that your deer will not recognize. This will fire up the deer where you hunt moreso than if you collect materials from another scrape in your hunting area.

I have just gotten back from one of my secret hunting spots. I went to change the film in the trailcam. I took a bucket and a shovel and dug up 3 fresh scrapes and put them in the bucket. I will make 3 Mock Scrapes on my land and see what happpens. I'll let you guys know in a couple of weeks when I return from the cabin. Good Luck and Be Safe.

What really works is if your hunting a scrape line and find one in a entirely different location, steal dirt/scent from that scrape and transplant it at your scrapeline. It drives the deer in your area bonkers and if you have a tough to get in the open buck it works wonderful..as he checks the scrape faithfully triing to get a bead on these newcomers.
Like mentioned you have to be careful with your scent. I wear rubber boots, latex gloves and place the dirt in a clean plastic bag.
Another trick is tie a tampon onto the sole of your rubber boot, soak in doe n heat pee and walk in cirlces around your shooting lane. This gives you ample shooting and view angles of the buck. Once this is done, slip a plastic bag over your boot/pad and walk out! (Outfitter trick we used to allow the hunter to get a reall good luck at the buck before pulling the trigger...worked well)
