Default Replacement deer

I just read in the HuntingNet.Com News (CWD item) that it takes a doe six years to provide a replacement for itself.

WHAT? I don't believe this is numerically possible, is it? Does can get hit up as a yearling, right? I'm 99% sure that their offspring are not all male for 5 years.

What's the deal?

That is an awfully tall number.

With the number of bucks and does born being about 50/50, that would give her about 2 buck fawns and 2 doe fawns in 6 years. Is it that improbable that one of the doe fawns could die before reaching breeding age?

Wow that is a high number. I would love to see how they came up with that number. I could see 3 year maybe 4 max but 6 seems to bea bit long.

I've always heard that they will run about 50/50 in sex. Some does can and do breed at 6 months of age, but lets say she doesn't till she is a year. Then each year she averages 2 fawns (the first year will probably be one, but commonly does that are healthy will have 3 when they are 4 to 5) for 6 years that will make it 10 or so for her, but those doe fawns she has early will also be producingduring those years so there would be 25 or so direct offspring of which half would be does..there is some attrition, but shouldn't be that high....(not 100% sure about the math, but it seems close) I would be curious about the article if you can link it.
