Default bambi syndrome

Has anyone wondered why they call it this? I watched this movie again after buying it on dvd about a month ago and this thought just came in to my head. This movie could not be any more off the mark as far as accuracy is concerened. I know that it is an old movie, made in the forties and all, but my god, it is so far from the mark it isn't funny. Everything about it is a farce. Yeah, its a disney flick and all, but I cannot believe that firms such as PETA actually use it as a basis for a front against hunters. (PETA being a misnomer considering they are all a serious bunch of hypocrits) I told my wife after watching Bambi that it was an absolute horrid movie, from just about every aspect. I doubt that my daughter will ever watch it in my presence because I know I would just not shut up about all its discrepencies. wonder what all of your thoughts are on it.

It's a CARTOON.. that's my thought on it. I didn't mind watching it as a kid and it didn't change my mind any about hunting. Also I'm sure my kid will watch it and it doesn't bother me. I HATE when people, even when some a kidding, tell me "Awww.. your going to shoot Bambi.". I remind them it's a CARTOON. I usually end up telling them that unless they find my arrow in their VCR then I haven't shot Bambi. People agitate the hell out of me when they try to involve fiction (cartoons) with real life situations. Could you imagine trying to make a valid point on a subject by refering to cartoons. ie. "Sorry I was driving drunk and choking my kid. But you don't want to arrest Homer Simpson, do you?". Just stupid.

It is being used as AN EXCUSE for very small, narrow minded people (if really any mind at all).

People who suffer from "Bambi Syndrome" rarely if ever think I can't eat Thumper (rabbit) or I can't eat Elsie the Cow (steaks, burgers, roasts, etc) or I can't eat Arnold the Pig (from Charlotte's Web.....bacon, sausages, pork chops, roasts, etc. No chicken for me! That would be like eating Foghorn Leghorn.

Like I said small, narrow minded people.

I got two things for you Bambi....................a slug and a frying pan.

It has some redeeming qualities. It does teach kids not to be careless with fire. It has little effect on my kids. They are country kids and have seen first hand that wild animals don't get along like that.

rile, love the arrow in the vcr bit. haven't thought of that one, I'll use it next time if you don't mind. I always counter the 'you're going to shoot bambi?' with, 'no, I don't shoot bambi, I shoot bambi's dad'....just my arrow in the vcr take on it.

At first I felt much the same way. I thought that it might distort my son's perception of what we do as hunters. That feared was laid to the side though when he proceeded to pantamime taking a shot at Bambi's dad with his imaginary gun.

That probably won't be a problem hoyt3, my granddaughter watched it for the first time a couple of years ago when she was 6 or 7. When it was over I ask her if she wanted to go hunting Bambi, she looked at me and said "No, I want to go after Prince!!!!"
She has her priorities right
