Default The loss of a true sportsman!

Our area, and indeed the hunting and fishing world lost a true sportsman and ambassador yesterday. Ed Holder, retired outdoors writer for many of our local newspapers passed away yesterday. Since 1959 he has pioneered outdoors writing, not only locally, but for the entire state of Texas! (When he began there were only 3 or 4 papers in the state that had an outdoors section!)
His articles were not just outdoors reports, but campfire stories, that not only educated a generation of hunters and fishers, but entertained them too!
He is an inspiration to many young writers, and just made you want to get outdoors and hunt, fish, and enjoy nature! If you didn't read the paper any day of the week, you'd be sure to get the Thursday paper, to see what Ed had to say!
He will surely be missed by all who have ever read his articles or talked to him!

AND I HAVE TO LEAVE THESE WOODS BEHIND
I WOULD LIKE TO ASK A FAVOR IF YOU WOULD BE SO KIND
THAT WHEN I ENTER THROUGH YOUR PEARLY GATES
AND COME INTO YOUR GLORYLAND
INSTEAD OF THE MANTION YOU PROMISED ME LORD

DD, Thanks for the kind words! Our sport would do well to have a few more like him! I know that he was not nationally known, but I guess therein lies the beauty of it! Someone who was not in it for the glory or the riches, but for the pure love of the sport!

While I am not familiar with this gentleman.I can relate to exactly what you are talking about! The fact that he has touched you in the way he has ensures that his spirit and enthusiasm will live on.I'm sure that you feel like you lost a good friend. Those people are special!
