I am about 2 miles from Hardy county...
My tips are to NOT walk around much in the month or so leading up to deer season, find out if your oaks are dropping much acorns without disturbing the woods too much, hunt near food sources like oaks or undisturbed fields that are also near thick areas that deer feel secure in (rather than open woods), hunt near trails and natural funnels that deer would most likely use when travelling, hunt from a treestand instead of the ground, plan to hunt when it gets cooler than 60 degrees, since that is when it is cool enough for deer to move around quite a bit, hunt the morning until about 9:30 and the afternoon from 3 until dark in the early season, and all day when the rut kicks in sometime in November, and hunt all day if you rifle hunt, since other hunters often kick around deer, and sometimes the rut is still in, when bucks move during the day a lot.
Bucks that are in the open in August and September will go into hiding when hunters start trudging around in the woods, and the leaves fall off of trees. Be quiet and move slow, keep your ears open, and look around quite a bit, especially if it is wet or windy where you can't hear well...
