guss...I hear ya...and either fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how ya look at it, as long as this sport is legal, there will always be enough scum bag wannabe's to keep me busy. And yes...you are right. I do feel strongly on this. I despise Sports with a passion.

DD....lazy and worthless they are indeed. How can u agree with elk when he can't stand Sports either? You are admittedly a Sport that buys deer. How boring it must have been sitting in that blind for four years staring at corn and peas. All so you could plaster a picture all over the internet....PATHETIC

MooseHorn its guys like you that give this sport a bad name ... how could a guy who feeds his family by guiding be such a back stabber? I wounder how a man ask a question on ethics when he has NO etihics.... talk about PATHETIC?

Don't you think that its kind of hypocritical to take money for something that you say you dispise so much?
That question being asked, I'd have to say the ethics of the guided hunts depend on many different factors. For the most part, I think that if it is not just an out and out "canned hunt," then it is ethical!
I live in Southeast Texas, deer is the only big game around here, and I'm at least a thousand miles from real elk hunting, and probably even further away from moose! Elk, or moose hunting will probably be a once or twice in a lifetime thing for me! In this type of case, scouting would be out of the question! My best chance at a sucessful hunt would be either a guided hunt or a drop camp, where someone else would be basically putting me on the game! What is unethical about that?
As far as being a hunter, as I said I live in SE Texas, hunting is hard and trophies are few! Not trying to be a braggard, but I've taken a deer, or two. So, I do know a little about hunting! Just not elk, and moose hunting, in unfamiliar territory!
Now let me compare apples, to apples for a moment here. Deer hunting, and/or guided deer hunting! Deer hunting is anywhere from public land, to guided, high dollar hunts, and everything in between! There are those who can pay big money to get big deer. Are they really hunters, or just killers? I'd say even that depends on the individual! They may be a very knowledgable hunter, or just a person with enough money to do what they want to! They might not be able to hunt their way out of a grocery store or they may be good enough to hunt anywhere, anytime! It just depends on the person behind the gun, and the situation!
I think most of these "weekend warriors, and "once in a lifetimers," know that they are not the ones doing the work, and that their "great trophy," is not on par with the hunter that scouts, works, and hunts, their own game!
Most of these "hunters," usually give their guides the credit for putting them in position to take a trophy animal, not to mention their tip money!
I hope that if, and when I get the chance to go elk, or moose hunting, I get a guide that is a REAL GUIDE! Not just a prostitute stabbing me in the back!

DD....And please do explain how I have no ethics....I guide because I am being true to myself, by making part of my living in the woods. I take money from idiots that actualy think that they are hunting, when all they are doing is what they are told. If I was guiding you, you would think that I thought you were the greatest guy in the world. You are the one that is paying for a hunting buddy.....not me.

Moose if you had ANY ethics and where ANY kind of man you would tell your clients to their faces what you think of them BEFORE they hunted not behind their back on the computer ... its easy to do it on here ... snug in your compter chair ... I would not hire guide like you to take me on a hunt for ANYTHING .... tell us all WHO you work for ...the name of your business if your a REAL man ... Im sure a lot of us would like to know.. IF you have the nerve. As for paid hunts I know that Howard Hill and Fred Bear went on many paid hunts ...I suppose you would say they were just "Sports" !

Sad thing is that PPL like me, who live in the middle of nowhere have no choice but to get quides if we ever want to hunt/kill a moose, elk, carrabou, bear, or anything other than whitetail or hogs. I personally have no clue what so ever a elk likes/dislikes. I have never seen one other than on TV. I would love nothing more than to take one of those great beast, but the cost for guides and "price per point" is WAY over what i have to spend. I would love to be able to get out and hunt open land to take nice game. I just dont know where to start, someone like yourself does. How will i ever learn if ppl like you are not there to teach me basics in gettin the job done. Even if you do charge a arm and a leg....and another arm to do it.
