Default Could be another tough year for WI acorns

Well, I'm not sure how many have noticed, but we could be in store for a tough year for the acorns. Last year was a downswing in the acorn cycle, so this year should have been better. However, we got a late frost here in Wisconsin and it really killed a bunch of oak leaves and buds. They're the only red leaves on the hillsides right now. Seems to only be a problem on lower hillsides, and not on the hilltops. They probably will be fine next year, but the chance of a good acorn year is going downhill fast. Anyone else seeing this in MN, IA, MI, or IL??

I dont know about minnisota or anything, but here in central wisconsin we dont have any oaks with red leaves. All of ours seem to be doing fine. Hope it gets better 'round where you live.

Hey Slayer,
Have not noticed a problem with the oaks in S.E. Wisconsin? I am lookking forward to this being the acorn year. We have white oak acorns every other year, this should be the year. I always have a great early season hunting the oaks on the drop years.

I'v noticed it as far north as LaCrosse WI. Maybe its a river bottom thing? i've seen it across the Miss in MN when i was up that way, and its up and down the Mississippi south of here. Inland at LEAST 5 miles. My pops says he's been seeing all over SW Wisconsin and he's in the woods everyday.

You dang right monster. Last year was an awesome year for acorns in the north central part of NC(Rockingham County). Hopefully they'll be falling on opening day again.

Personally, I think the hunting is better when the acorn crop and other masts are poor.
