RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

Hey Slee,
How's the season going? Where specificly have you been hunting? The Walk-In? I just was just wondering because I talked to some hunters that I didn't know, I never asked and name or where the came from but they weren't local. I was just wondering if maybe one of them was you. I will check this post regularly for a reply from you.

If it's brown, its down

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

No, wasn't me BrushChimp. I've been going in off of Elk Creek Rd. If you take Elk Creek Rd 'til it becomes gravel, then take the 2nd road to the left(45something?). I have been hunting along the Seven Creek area. I've found some fresh elk sign, but have yet to see an elk. That creek bottom on either side of the road gives access to several ridges and clearcuts, which seems to be the attraction. The downside is it's lots of thick ground to cover for 1 guy over a few days. I'm going back down Saturday morning, and staying the remainder of the weekend. Hopefully I can get lucky and locate elk like I did on the last weekend of the first season. BrushChimp, I'm wide open to suggestions on how to hunt this area. You can shoot me an e-mail if you want.

They are calling for rain, so I have to decide whether it's the Chevy with a tarp over the bed for my bed, or the mini-van without the seats for my bed. They're both 2WD, so I'm not doing any serious off-roading anyway. I could bring a hunting video to watch in the mini-van while I'm eating dinner though. What do you guys think?

Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em!

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

Wayne, glad to hear that all the birds weren't wiped out last season. What's the earliest in the season that I can get into my spot up above the powerlines? My buddy Dan probably isn't coming out, so I may look at coming a little earlier this spring. I sure do like the warmer/drier weather and less crowding of early May though. Birds are definitely more call shy by then, but our group has always gotten at least 1 bird out of that section either around camp or above the powerlines. Hmmmm.

It'll be very interesting to see how the hunter #s change if they seperate and raise fees for turkey tags. I think the numbers will stay pretty high, since turkey hunting is very addictive. But I sure would like to see less crowds, especially on the west side. They definitely need to weed out some idiots statewide.

Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em!

Sounds good Wayne. Next time I'm over that way, we've got to have a little longer meeting. Maybe a steak and a cold one or two. Maybe even a hunt too.

Hi Everyone,
I hope you all Had a great Holidays & Have a great New Year. I've been home about a month from Cuba & I have had a few chances to get out after Waterfowl with on luck. I'm not sure we had a pretty good spot & the weather was pretty Crappy so the duck should have been flying & they were a little bit just very high. Well maybe I can find a place to Turkey hunt this spring.

Good Luck & Good Hunting

Saw 15 deer today, one herd of 9 and then a herd of eight right nere the house. Been seeing the usual pheasants, had 12 hens in the back yard yesterday, and two roosters in there today.

Good Luck on ya'alls banquet Kitsap - any of your folk gonna help man the booth at the sportsman show in Puyallup? Last years show was a lot of fun. Good way to get in touch with people interested in joining - I'm sure there'll be a list for people to sign up for. We generated quite a few names last year. The problem is groups like Trendwest have made a lot of people skiddish about giving out their names and contact info - can't blame em' though. Once an organization like that gets a wiff of you they'll hound you endlessly.

Well, that's the end of hunting until April unless the odd coyote gets in the way. Not enough snow and a few too many people but still managed to finish up with a limit of chukar, and a couple of huns and quail. A rather delightful day, I must say. Now time to get back to the chores.

Well Turkey season probably is not gonna happen the way I' d like it...we have to go to Arizona, and Orlando, so any spare time for hunting turks is gonna seriously be screwed.[:@]...as far as my time in Spokane in March goes it looks like the 10th -14th, so we need to hook up for a dinner at least, my treat!!!!!Whats your thought on that?????Would love to see you and Diane!!!!

Wayne, with this goofey winter we are having, are the birds still flocked up? I remember last year the day before the opener there was a HUGE flock right outside my camp 15 birds - 1 big ol' tom, 1 hen, and the rest were jakes - one of the strangest things I' ve ever seen... It seemed that they hadn' t broken down into breeding yet - I was wondering if this mild winter has em' hot a little earlier.
