RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

It used to be in this state.....first you bought your modern firearm tag...then If ya wanted to hunt bow....you paid another $5.00...and if you also wanted to hunt blackpowder...it was another $5.00...of corse....you still only got 1 tag......but you could hunt all the season's.....they made more money off me then cus I got all that I could get....ever since they made it either-or....I've gone strictly bow

slee 08-01-2002 01:11 AM

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

Let me get this straight. You buy an archery and get skunked, then get a modern and get skunked, etc., then when the late archery rolls around you just keep hunting. That would make too much sense for that to be the way it is. What kills me is they keep talking about too many hunters in the woods to let everybody hunt all seasons, but our numbers aren't increasing. But I don't think the elk are doing well enough everywhere to go back to the way it use to be. We'd have to go to a draw system because success rates would increase, and I don't want that. What I don't understand is how the WILD system would allow you to buy multiple tags anyway. I don't think it will, but I'm not sure.

Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em!

WAYNE IT WILL BE IN OCTOBER. THE 10TH THROUGH THE 31

WANWTF 08-01-2002 11:45 AM

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

When I was in VA, you were able to hunt both bow and shotgun, with a certain amount of deer with each tag, plus a doe requirement as well... I think the total with both liscense was 7 deer a year. That was awesome...

My thinking on this make your choice of weapon and live strictly by that choice was people throwing a fit that "bow hunters got more hunting time" so it wasn't fair - not for a moment thinking they too could pick up a bow... Anyhow... I would love to get a huge buck, but I'm in it for the meat - if it were allowable for you to hunt both seasons (bow and modern), I'd chase a trophy with my bow, and failing that, I'd get my meat w/modern.

Nascar - that listing was actually e-mailed to me.

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

hey all....found this in the "Off Season" forum.....posted bt ButchA...just thought I'd post it here for all of ya that don't ever make it there....lol.. INEXPERIENCED CHILI TASTER

Notes from An Inexperienced Chili Tester Named FRANK, who was visiting Texas from the East Coast: "Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili cook-off.

The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table asking directions to the beer wagon, when the call came. I was assured by the other two judges (Native Texans) that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy, and besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, So I accepted."

Here are the scorecards from the event:

CHILI # 1 MIKE'S MANIAC MOBSTER MONSTER CHILI

JUDGE ONE: A little too heavy on tomato. Amusing kick.

JUDGE TWO: Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.

FRANK: Holy sh*t, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy.

CHILI # 2 ARTHUR'S AFTERBURNER CHILI

JUDGE ONE: Smokey, with a hint of pork. Slight Jalapeno tang.

JUDGE TWO: Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously.

FRANK: Keep this out of the reach of children I'm not sure what I am supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they saw the look on my face.

CHILI # 3 FRED'S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILI

JUDGE ONE: Excellent firehouse chili! Great kick. Needs more beans.

JUDGE TWO: A beanless chili, a bit salty, good use of peppers.

FRANK: Call the EPA; I've located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back; now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I'm getting sh*t-faced from all the beer.

CHILI # 4 BUBBA'S BLACK MAGIC

JUDGE ONE: Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.

JUDGE TWO: Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili.

FRANK: I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it, is it possible to burnout taste buds? Sally, the barmaid, was standing behind me with fresh refills; that 300 lb. mama is starting to look HOT just like this nuclear waste I'm eating. Is chili an aphrodisiac?

CHILI # 5 LINDA'S LEGAL LIP REMOVER

JUDGE ONE: Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very Impressive.

JUDGE TWO: Chili using shredded beef could use more tomato. Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement.

FRANK: My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted and four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage; Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from a pitcher. I wonder if I'm burning my lips off? It really p*sses me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Screw those rednecks!

CHILI # 6 VERA'S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY

JUDGE ONE: Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spice and peppers.

JUDGE TWO: The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic. Superb.

FRANK: My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I sh*t myself when I farted and I'm worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except Sally. Can't feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my a$$ with a snow cone!

CHILI # 7 SUSAN'S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI

JUDGE ONE: A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.

JUDGE TWO: Ho Hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of Chili peppers at the last moment. I should take note that I am worried about Judge Number 3, He appears to be in a bit of distress, he is cursing uncontrollably.

FRANK: You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn't feel a damn thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava-like sh*t to match my shirt. At least during the autopsy they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop breathing, it's too painful. Screw it, I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I'll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.

Oh man, I can hardly see the computer screen for the tears from laughing hysterically. That's the funniest damn thing I've read in a long time. I've got a few friends that have got to read that. I'll have to paste that in an e-mail. Thanks Wayne.

Has anyone been out bear hunting? I went out scouting for elk, and took the rifle just in case. I didn't see anything, but I heard a few shots fired.

Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em!

WOW Wayne 9 days!!!! You sould have a good time, and plenty of time to get on some critters!!! It will be interesting to see what you think of the wet side of the state, after 9 days of hunting in it? And if you think you see little gentlemen with AK's and black PJ's, don't worry it just looks like Nan jungles...*L* Wishing you the best of luck!!!!!

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

Wayne, absolutely bring your stands. The deer and elk don't see 'em much over here. It's not like where I'm from where the deer look up in the trees as they walk through the woods. They are familiar with "Death from above". I don't know what kind of stands you have(climber or hang-on), but make sure you bring a good saw and some pruning shears. These Doug firs have lots of little snags on 'em. Not so bad with hang-ons, but are hell for me and my Ol'Man Vision. It really puts you above the underbrush over here. Good luck. I wish I was getting 9 days. I'm only going out on the 2nd, evening of the 6th-8th, and maybe the 14th.

Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em!

Ditto what Slee has already said on the stands....Bring it, you may find a spot that will lend itself nicely for a stand and you'll kick yourself for not bring it, they don't weigh much, or take up much room.
