Blue/Dusky Grouse
Last deer season in unit 181 in CO, N of Kremmling. I had a Blue walk into camp and it ended up in my pot. My buddies and I also stirred up a few while looking for deer.
This past weekend my son and I went up to hunt blue grouse and scout for deer. We didn't see a darn bird. We hunted down low (where I shot one last year) in the Aspens and then up high where the mountain tops out and it transitions to aspen and spruce. It was a bad weather day and we had intermittent snow.
Any ideas why I might not have seen any? Was it just the weather? This was my first time going for them intentionally and I was wondering if I did something wrong. Does anybody hunt this area for grouse that can give me a clue?

RE: Blue/Dusky Grouse
The area's near where I have hunted it seems best near water. Usually with some heavy timber(pines) around. Have a couple different springs in heavy timber and I can alot of times find a group of them within 100 yards. That being said, I'll probably find zero this year when I go.

I always find blue and ruffed grouse on the top of ridges or right near the top. I also see them on benches quite frequently. They seem to prefer areas where there is good ground cover, namely short shrubs/brush.
