Duck Blinds
We built a duck blind some 20 yrs ago to reolace the blind that was there.
I am looking for tips on what you guys use to keep a blind from sinking.
Last time we used foru 4x4s we pounded into the marsh bottom. It is a cattail bog with walkable bottom under if you shold go through - albeit soft.
This time we are thinking of using 6.
The general size is 4 ft by 8 ft with an attached boat hide for a 16 ft boat.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

RE: Duck Blinds
I have built several blinds in bottomless muck
So this might help
If I understand you
You are looking to keep the blind in place and to keep it from sinking
IMO the 6 4x4's should anchor the blind well
We have acess to used pressure treated 4x4's
So we bolted a 4x4 along the front posts and back posts against the bottom and front to back
The 4x4's against the bottom keeps the posts from sinking
Then we build a deck just over normal water depth
The last few blinds , we have changed our design
We put our boat hide a short walk away from the blind
And the blind itself is only the green coated 4x4 steel mesh
With a roof of the same mesh , with brown tarp section
Just fro the roof , to keep the rain off our heads
But not covering the back wall
We then make drop down "windows" to pop out to shoot
We then lightly brush the blind
You can see right through it
So you have to wear camo and not move when the birds are working
I freely admit we stole the idea from this place http://www.aerooutdoors.com/products/blinds/duckmodular.html
Downside is the wind blows through it
But we are slowly replacing all our permint blinds to this design
As this design is much better than the standard box blind
Oh we lay down a roll of used 6' chain link fence on the bottom to walk from the boat hide to the blind where needed
We get it from a club member for next to nothing

RE: Duck Blinds
Hey John - thanks
Yes we talked about a 4x4 bottom brace along front and back side - 8 ft and then all sides.
We can pound the post down and I was thinking this time to bring a pump and a hose and a length of galvanized pipe and power the post down with water pressure..
We do have a 6 inch thick piece of styrofoam but we don't think that will last long - albeit it has been left outside for quite a few yrs. The land is private so the blind does not need to be taken out.
Old blind had back and sides and a roof for rain and snow. I have requested a back window space this time to watch the birds that circle us.
The front wall was shelved and we had a box seat. We are geting rid of the box as we don't leave decoys out there anymore. So that wieght will be gone. 4x8 saves on materials and does allow for 3 hunters
Thanks again
