RE: What is a good duck gun?
I have a remington 870 express uper magnum (3 1/2) and i hunt anything btween doves to deer or bigger if i have to. I use a super full for everything but tis harder to hit dove and fast moving animals bt it holds a tighter pattern than anthing else i know.
Start with a full for duck hunting and turkey hunting.

Do NOT use a super full with steel shot! I don't think that's what Laramie meant to imply....but just to clear things up. Stay with IC and Mod if you're usieng Steel. Besides, steel patterns tighter so there's very little need to use the tight chokes.

Very nice choice on a 870 Camo. I am thinking about purchasing a 870 3 1/2 Camo just for Turkey hunting. I am currently using a Charles Daly 12ga. Auto and a Win. 1300 pumpfor anything that I would shoot with a 12ga.

Since we are talking about barrels and i'm as much as a novice as bamahunter i've got some qustions for you guys if you don't mind. I've narrowed down my Deer Gun to an 870 from the lovely advice of others on here. MY question is in the Remington Catalog i got it has all of the different types of barrels. I want to hunt deer as well as small game such as squirrels and rabbits and then duck. Would i be better getting the 3" smooth bore slug barrel to use different types of shells for different game or get the regular barrel for duck and small game and getting the rifled cantilever for deer ? I'm a novice of the novices P.S. I live in ohio so i can't use a rifle for hunting deer.

RE: What is a good duck gun?
for whatever its worth for whoever started this thread, ive hunted for a few years with a few different guns. i started with a 3" 870 and hunted with many buddies with more expencive guns. ive seen the "better guns" (benilli, franchi, browning) leave them cussin up a storm while im still shooting with my budget gun. i shoot just as many as they do if not more with taking the "poor boy" route.
p.s. if you want i'll sell you a benelli. she works fine, just dont like it.
