RE: New Shotgun
id say go with the 391, but i have basically the same post in the waterfowl forum. i would forget about the 11-87 and go with a beretta. the 391 390 or pintail. from what ive heard they are all very reliable and very much worth your money. i work at a gun club and there are a lot of ppl there that shoot the 11-87s and they are always jamming on them. the other day i saw a guy that shot his and parts flew out. i would go with a beretta but the benelli isnt bad either..its just that you pay 200+ just for the name.

i'd go for something like a browning gold. they seem to be very decent field guns and from what i've seen they're very dependable guns. not bad to look at either.
also i've been impressed with the benelli super black eagle but i dont know what kinda price range they are.

The Browning Gold Hunter or Stalker are good guns. I have a Gold Hunter in 20ga, a Gold Hunter in 12ga (shoots 2 3/4" & 3" and a Gold Waterfowl 12ga 3 1/2". I bought the 12ga Gold Hunter right after they came out. They all work great & are VERY reliable! The only mechanical problem I've had is shooting very light 7/8oz reloads in the 12ga.

I'd be very careful about the Remington. In the last 5 years I've been through an 11-87 and a Browning Gold Hunter. I now shoot a Benelli M-1 field and love it. I shot 1100s for years in 12 ga. skeet competition and never had a problem. When I moved to duck hunting country I bought an 11-87 and it lasted one year. Then I traded it in on the Browning and it didn't last one season. All the old guys at the gun shows said "Yep, them Brownings ain't what they used to be." I got the M-1 field because it's cheaper and I don't want to shoot 3-1/2 in shells. Several of my friends have the super black eagle and they love them. If I understand the system correctly, the Benelli is not spring driven -- it's more reliable than that. I don't really understand the engineering but it's faster than one of my 1100s right after it had been cleaned. Good luck.

Good luck with your Benelli. My brother in law and another friend went Snow goose hunting with me last spring and both had Benelli shotguns that were supposedly autos. Neither one of them in two days of hunting ever got more than one shot at a flock because they would either jam or would not pick up the next round. When you pay over a grand for a gun like that I think you have a right to expect it to work. My BPS 10 or 870 Super mag never fail me. I don't have time to try to unjam or take a gun apart when the birds are in range.
