I live in Mass. where we can only hunt deer with shotgun's. Does anyone know if a rifled 12 gauge is a shotgun or a rifle?
How about 12 guage rifled slug guns?
What makes a shotgun a shotgun in the "laws" eyes.

check with your game comm. In Fla. they are considered a shotgun.
it is just as deadly as a rifle at about 100 yards.
I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest
remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

In Wisconsin, a shotgun is a shotgun. Whether the barrel is rifled or smooth does not matter (as far a the definition of a shotgun goes). The rifled shotguns are more accurate out to longer distances, but the sabot shells are about 4-5 times more expensive.

A shotgun is a shotgun if it shoots a shotshell. That includes slug guns and smooth bores shooting rifled slugs. But just to make sure I would check with your game warden just in case there are ammo restrictions in your area,(like you can only shoot buck shot, or only slugs).
