Default PICS - Hat Trick on Grouse

I got a Hat Trick on Grouse this morning. A Hat Trick is one of each of the 3 species that we have here in WA (Ruffed, Spruce and Blue). I have ahd a 'Grand Slam' a few times (some of each species in one season), but this is only the 2nd time in 23 years that I got a Hat Trick. For those of you who don't have all 3 species of Grouse, a Ruffed weighs 1+ lbs - a Spruce is 2+ lbs and a Blue is 3+ lbs.

Great job!!! Twenty-three years to repeat. I have hunted all the grouse except blue, spruce and ptarmigan. Maybe next year for blue and/or spruce.

Once again -- congrats

One of the coolest parts of the hunt was in taking the Ruff. The bird was about 8' up in an Elderberry bush and Casey went on a "head-high" air scent point -- quite a sight seeing a Lab on point looking up into a tree.!.!.

Cool, my female Chessie did something similar when I shot a woodcock that got caught in a tree. My pup, who was 7 months at the time was tearing the area up searching for the prize, as my female kept "nosing" and looking up in the tree. Your right -- quite a sight to see!

here in Northern MN the cycle is down i live in DeerRiver
i went to a place i'm not joking when i tell ya it's called
blueberry hills... no luck there so i drove down co rd 144 about 1/2
mile saw a gate parked in front walked the trail.. not even 20 mins
in the woods one shot off to my right i couldn't take the shot did'nt want to shoot him in the behind so i said to myself that's just great
farther in the woods i came across a clearing.. one flew infront of me i didn't shoot because there was gun fire it sounded close i didn't see anyone or blaze orange. and yes i can use a .22rifle
to hunt grouse.. my mixed lab is to hyper to take with me
