What's your dog?

RE: What's your dog?
I have two Pudelpointers right now... will likely add another next year.
Here's Duffy. He'll be 2 in April.
Another of the Duffster...
Here's the newest addition, Bandit (9 weeks)
Another more recent of Bandit
I can't wait for spring.

RE: What's your dog?
I have hunted over a variety of dogs like many of you. Lab, english setter, english pointers, gordon setters and gsps. MY experience has been this. The labs are nice dogs, good hunters, and great family pets, but for upland, at least the one I hunted over, they just lack the stamina of the other 3 breeds that I mentioned. I found the English pointer to be bar far the hardest running of the bunch, and extremly intense to hunt with. The GSP's and English setters though fast, though not as hard running as the EP, were more methodical in their search. The Gordon I got to hunt, though a fine hunter, and maybe a little on the older side, hunted hard several long days without a break, didn't seem to keep pace with the English setters, EP', or GSP's. Not to say that they are all like that by any means. having owned an english setter already, I chose a GSP for my next pup because they will also do water retreives, and can be used for duck. A lab would be a better duck dog, I do more upland, and the GSP is a better upland dog, and occasional duck than the lab would be for the same. IF it were more duck, then maybe a lab. I guess what it boils down to is a GSP will do ducks better than a lab will do upland. BUt that is just my opinion.
So for me: GSP
So for me: GSP

RE: What's your dog?
if your LAB is in good shape, they will do fine..
i agree with you..
but LAB hunts real close and i like that ..
GSP i hunted behind were all way out, same with pointers ,es..
if LAB is not in shape, yes, you are right, they get tired..
heavy coat is tough on them in warm weather..
but i feel LAB for a lot of reasons is better ALL AROUND DOG,field, home .........
only my opinion also.......

RE: What's your dog?
This is my first bird dog. He's the best kind, he was free!! He wasn't hunted much and is about three years old. This year is the first year I have had him out and he suprised me. I figured he would run off and eat the bird after finding it but he brought the first one right to me and has done very good ever since. He seems to get tired but will keep on going until you make him stop. He's also a good family dog and loves people.
