RE: What's your dog?
I have hunted over a variety of dogs like many of you. Lab, english setter, english pointers, gordon setters and gsps. MY experience has been this. The labs are nice dogs, good hunters, and great family pets, but for upland, at least the one I hunted over, they just lack the stamina of the other 3 breeds that I mentioned. I found the English pointer to be bar far the hardest running of the bunch, and extremly intense to hunt with. The GSP's and English setters though fast, though not as hard running as the EP, were more methodical in their search. The Gordon I got to hunt, though a fine hunter, and maybe a little on the older side, hunted hard several long days without a break, didn't seem to keep pace with the English setters, EP', or GSP's. Not to say that they are all like that by any means. having owned an english setter already, I chose a GSP for my next pup because they will also do water retreives, and can be used for duck. A lab would be a better duck dog, I do more upland, and the GSP is a better upland dog, and occasional duck than the lab would be for the same. IF it were more duck, then maybe a lab. I guess what it boils down to is a GSP will do ducks better than a lab will do upland. BUt that is just my opinion.
So for me: GSP
